Lucy Fraser’s path to parenthood was far from easy. After being diagnosed with unexplained infertility in her mid-30s, Lucy and her partner embarked on a decade-long journey filled with challenges, heartbreak, and ultimately, joy.
The Long Road to Motherhood
Lucy always assumed getting pregnant would be simple. “I grew up thinking I’d just fall pregnant when I wanted to,” she recalls. But after six months of trying with no success, Lucy and her partner sought medical advice. Despite all tests coming back normal, they were eventually diagnosed with unexplained infertility after 18 months.
This news was devastating. Lucy describes feeling confused and retreating inward, avoiding social events and dreading questions about when they’d have children. She tried everything from acupuncture to nutrition changes, desperate to find answers.
Finding Support Through Fertility Coaching
It was fertility coaching that finally helped Lucy emerge from what she calls a “dark hole of despair.” Working with coach Dani Griffiths gave Lucy tools to change her mindset and overcome her fears about fertility treatments.
After three years of trying naturally, Lucy had an epiphany at a friend’s wedding. Crying in the bathroom after getting her period, she realized she couldn’t keep living month-to-month in disappointment. She made an appointment with a fertility clinic that Monday.
The Rollercoaster of Treatment
Lucy’s first step was trying intrauterine insemination (IUI), which was unsuccessful. She then moved on to IVF, resulting in the birth of her daughter when Lucy was 37.
A few years later, Lucy and her partner decided to try for another child. To their shock, Lucy conceived naturally. But their joy was short-lived – Lucy miscarried early in the pregnancy.
“I don’t think there are any words to describe pregnancy loss,” Lucy shares. “It’s just so devastating. It’s like such a wrench in the gut.”
After taking time to grieve and heal, Lucy underwent another round of IVF at age 41. This cycle was successful, resulting in her “rainbow twins” who are now 5 years old.
Turning Pain into Purpose
Lucy’s struggles with infertility and loss inspired her to become an IVF and egg freezing coach herself. She trained with her former coach, Dani Griffiths, determined to help other women navigate the emotional challenges of fertility treatments.
“I wanted to turn my struggles and my experience into my passion and purpose,” Lucy explains. “To help others so that people know they’re never alone on this journey.”
As a coach, Lucy focuses on mind-body connection work, helping women identify subconscious blocks and limiting beliefs that may be impacting their fertility. She guides clients through healing past traumas and losses while cultivating hope for the future.
“When you let go of how and when it’s going to happen, you just take the pressure off yourself,” Lucy advises. She encourages women to acknowledge their feelings while also believing in their resilience.
Hope for the Journey
While Lucy’s path to motherhood was long and painful at times, she wants other women to know there is always hope. She conceived her twins at 41, defying statistics about age-related fertility decline.
For women considering egg freezing, Lucy emphasizes the importance of education and emotional preparation. She cautions against making fear-based decisions and encourages exploring all options.
Most importantly, Lucy wants women to know they aren’t alone in their fertility struggles. Whether through coaching, support groups, or trusted friends, finding community is crucial.
“You are never alone,” Lucy says. “There are people that have sadly gone through the same or are going through the same. There is support out there.”
By sharing her story and supporting other women, Lucy has transformed her pain into purpose. Her journey reminds us that even the longest, most difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations.
